That's what we all want to know, isn't it? Forget about working hard for money if you don't have to. When it comes to making money online, you can end up working harder for money online than you could at your day job IF you don't know what you're doing.
More specifically, I mean targeting the wrong type of traffic.
You see, when I started out trying to make money online I didn't know shit. I looked at people like John Chow and Shoe Money and thought "damn, I could make easy money from home''. I mean look at these guys. When I read about making easy money with Adsense ads, I thought of all the billions of searches done on the internet each day and how all they had to do was click an ad on a website I set up an walked away from and I'd get rich quick.
Well, it's just not that simple.
As you know by now, I'm sure. Needless to the urge to make easy money was too much for me so I decided to try it for myself and follow the advice of social bloggers like John Chow, Shoe Money, Blogging Experiment, etc.
So I set up a nice little social MMO blog and waited for the money to roll in...and waited....and waited....and waited some more....
All in all I made about $60 in six months. That's sure as hell nothing to quit your day job over. LOL. All along the way I was questioning what went wrong. What am I doing wrong? When will I start making money? Do I have all of the same affiliate programs on my MMO blog that John Chow has? Yep. Check. Well, why am I not making any freaking money?
All good questions with an obvious answer.
There are two types of traffic: social traffic and search traffic. One will make you work your ass off for next to nothing and the other will pay your bills, maybe even take the place of your day job. Social traffic is primarily comprised of other bloggers and everyone and their mother knows that other bloggers don't spend money!
The other kind of traffic is search traffic, the name says it all-regular people who do Google searches for something when they want it. This kind of traffic is willing to spend money when they find what they're looking for.
Looking for an easy ways to make money? Stop targeting the wrong type of traffic! Stop putting the same affiliate ads on your MMO blog that every other blogger in the world has on their own MMO blog because that market is tapped out and all the people who were interested in buying have already bought or seen enough of the same shit.
The easiest way to make money is to find yourself a niche that you can rank well in-I'm talking about number 1 in Google or at least somewhere on the 2nd page of G's SERPs. After you do that most of the so called work is done. Then put Adsense on you MMO blog.
Sounds easy, huh?
Yeah, it does. All you really need is enough search traffic so that you get at least a 5-6% CTR and you will start to make money without having to work for it...so to speak. Think of it this way:
- By targeting search traffic, you will have regular people who are willing to spend money visiting your MMO blog day in, day out.
- You don't have to post a new article every freakin day or worry about developing a readership. Don't get me wrong here, readership is great but it will not make you any money. Only unique search traffic will. (More on this later.)
- With the extra time you've got from not having such a rigorous posting schedule you will be able to enjoy being at home and not spend so much time isolated in front of your computer.
If you want to "work from home", that's great. But you gotta know what you're doing before you quit your day job or else you probably will not have a decent payday any time soon. Following social bloggers is a waste of time. Building a social MMO blog will be more work for much less than you make at your day job.
I don't want to give any of my MMO beginners here the wrong impression...you can learn things from social bloggers, but you can't make money being a social blogger. It's just not practical. John Chow can't even replicate his own success. He was challenged once to take a blog from scratch and make it into another John Chow dot com success and he couldn't do it. The truth is that he used black hat SEO to get where he is today. He got busted by G on it and it doesn't work anymore. But enough about John Chow...
My point is that unless you're an MMO authority like John Chow or Shoe Money, you will be wasting your time trying to make money as a social blogger. I honestly didn't know the difference when I started out in MMO. I wasted a lot of time and effort going in the wrong direction because I didn't know the beginners basics. It is imperative for make money online beginners (MMO beginners) to know the difference between search traffic and social traffic before you get in too deep. It sets the tone for the your entire MMO blog. Pick your niche wisely. Rank high for as many keywords as possible for your niche. Don't monetize your MMO blog until you're indexed in Google or have written at least 10 posts or more. Avoid writing for social traffic because it will not lead to a payday for you. These are for beginners easy ways to make money.
